The new guidelines followed to redefine the appellation were, on the one hand, based on the history of a deeply rooted product with a strong identity and, on the other, they have removed obsolete parts.
The ampelography of the Garda Doc speci-fications has remained the one traditionally related to the Doc productions of the entire area, which starts from the Soave Doc wines up to the Valtenesi Doc wines and includes 10 historical appellations of this area.
Spumante wine (even made with a blend of grapes) is the core type of wine of the appel-lation and is the common denominator that unites the seven million bottles produced in this area under various names.
IL CONSORZIO TUTELA GARDA DOC è stato riconosciuto ERGA OMNES dal MiPAAF con D.M. 26 maggio 2016.
From whatever point you look at Lake Gar-da, it mirrors a millenary history of culture, wise transformation and enhancement of fine quality raw materials.
This lake, the largest one in Italy, is the heart of appellations of excellence that un-fold among castles, around small picturesque ports and in small villages, where time seems to have stopped.
The Garda Doc has its roots in these hills embroidered with vineyards, in a hinterland that reveals unique atmospheres. A predom-inantly hilly production area that surrounds the lake, extending from Valtènesi to Valpo-licella, from the banks of the Mincio River to Verona.
THE GARDA DOC WAS OFFICIALLY BORN IN 1996 with the aim of underlining the value of the varietal wines of the 10 historical appellations of the Garda area between Lombardy and Veneto:
